In 1914, Union Hardware was an old fashion hardware store serving DC residence. The name was inspired by the growing strength of the labor unions. Abraham and Jennie Goldberg, who opened Union Hardware in 1914, realized that aligning the business with the union workforce would help keep business growing through troubled economic times. In 1954 Charles Goldberg their son expanded this hammers and nails hardware store to include a small selection of decorative plumbing and hardware products.

I really give these people a zero rating. Terrible experience. I do not recommend ordering anything from this store. I purchased doorknobs which I was told had to be ordered. I was not told that there would be a restocking fee if I had to return them. The sales person told me I needed dummies for my closets. They did not fit. Turns out I needed a different type of doorknob which I was going to order when I returned the dummies today that did not fit.

I paid $238.50 (including tax) for 5 dummies. I was charged a restocking fee of $190.80 and given a refund of only $47.70 for the 5 returned dummies, that's an 80% charge. I cant believe it. Note: I have spent a lot of money in this store on previous occasions, when I gutted my bathrooms and when I purchased new hardware for my front door. For my master bathroom renovations a few years ago, I spent $7771.70 for a vanity, mirrors, shower rods, towel bars, sconces, etc.

For a second bathroom, I spent 3,880.71. So loyalty does not matter to these people either. Customer service is also bad. I had to wait almost a half hour when there was no one else in the store. I was told the salesperson who sold me the items was in the bathroom and no one else could help me, even though there were two other salespeople in th the store.

I will reach out to the owner, if I can determine who that person is, to see If I can get some sort of restitution. There's no way that any store should charge a restocking fee of 80%.

Disrespected in the store. No one helped me when I arrived and when a representative noticed I was there, I was told, "I'm sorry but we closed 5 minutes ago." I had been there 10 minutes and the representative on the floor tended only to the other woman who was browsing. I was ignored. They obviously don't want my business.

Union Hardware is outstanding. I've used them for years for hardware and plumbing fixtures and they have a better selection than anybody in town. In addition, their service is the best. I had an issue with a fairly old faucet recently and Ross, one of the sales reps, tracked down the sales reciept and assisted me in getting warranty info. Most places would have told me they couldnt help, but they searched their data base, found the ten year old receipt and walked me through what I needed to do. Now I have a new kitchen faucet on its way at no charge. If you like good customer service, this is the place to go.

I have been dealing with Union Hardware for years. Outfitted our new home and several years later had a problem and they were quick to resolve. Later had a supply line fail and connected with manufacturer. Manufacturer sent parts quickly without cost even though beyond warranty. Pays to invest in better quality products and not deal with Big Boxes.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR LADIES AND GENTLEMEN AND AVOID THIS STORE BY ALL MEANS. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! TODAY I VISITED THIS STORE AND SPOKE TO ONE OF THEIR ASSOCIATES, A MALE SALES CLERK AND REPRESENTATIVE, MIDDLE AGE, SALT AND PEPPER HAIR, TALL. I DO NOT REMEMBER HIS NAME. HE WAS ARROGANT AND SPOKE TO ME IN A CONDESCENDING MANNER. HE EVEN REFUSED TO HELP ME SIMPLY BECAUSE I HAVE PURCHASED SOME OF MY PRODUCTS ELSEWHERE AND NOW I WAS TRYING TO GET SOMETHING FROM THIS STORE TO MATCH THEM WITH. HE WISHED I HAD PURCHASED EVERYTHING FROM HIM OR FROM THIS STORE. WELL, THIS IS NOT HOW THINGS WORK. CUSTOMERS HAVE THE RIGHT TO BUY PRODUCTS ANYWHERE THEY LIKE.

I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS AWFUL STORE. AS FOR THEIR PRODUCTS; NOTHING SPECIAL. MIDDLE CLASS AMERICA. FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT WOULD HAVE CONSIDERED IT BORING AND UNINTERESTING. THE WORLD OF DESIGN HAS DRAMATICALLY CHANGED OVER THE PAST TWO DECADES AND THERE ARE PRODUCTS SOLD ELSEWHERE THAT ARE LIGHT YEARS AHEAD INTO THE FUTURE.

I just called to see if they had plumbing parts (a stretch, I know but it's close to my office) and instead of a simple 'no' received a lecture about how I need to replace the whole fixture and they only deal with high end product. I NEED to come in and pick out a whole new shower fixture. No thank you - not sure why someone would think being completely condescending would compel me to spend tons of money. Find somewhere else, there are plenty of kitchen and bath shops around and no one deserves your money who would speak to a potential customer that way.

Recently purchased door knobs and kitchen faucet for home. The intricate design and finishing added more warmth to my home. The reliability of the products is well worth the investment. The customer service awesome - the best!
