I had a terribly clogged kitchen sink. I called and was put into voice mail, but got called back within 10 minutes. They got a plumber over the next morning, and I was called to let me know when he would be there. They were right on time. The plumber was a guy Michael Cox. He was training another young man, and was instructing the newer guy on how to assure that no damage was done to the floor or cabinets. Mr. Cox knew exactly what he was doing, did it well and not only fixed my problem, but was sure to instruct me on how to not have it happen again. I was delighted with the service, professional manner of Mr. Cox and the fair price for the service. I would highly recommend him.

Plumber broke the toilet pipe and then denied doing it. Claimed I had another plumber work on the toilet! Totally a bold faced lie! The office manager proceeded to say the plumber was a minister so therefore he believed him, and surely I was lying! Under NO circumstance would I ever recommend this company. BUYER BEWARE

I've used the john ruth co. for 3 jobs in the last 1.5 yrs. I have a 4th scheduled at a friends residence. my jobs have been small ( new toilet, new pressure reduction valve) and routine. their telephone assistance has been terrific. they've arranged start times that work for me. I'm looking forward to them working on guest bathroom this summer. I recommend this company. quick turnaround, competitive pricing, very pleased with work.

As a result of their sloppy plumbing installation, the lower level of my restaurant was flooded with seven feet of water. The cost of the damage ran well into the six figures. As if that weren't terrible enough, Jim Arnold, the owner of this company, actually had the nerve to threaten my wife and I for payment after he was found to be liable by his own insurance company. We believe that was immoral. Dealing with this company has been one of the costliest mistakes we've ever made in business.

I have been dealing with John Ruth Plumbers since the early 1990's. Until this past Tuesday, I would have given them 5 stars. Last week, I spoke with Mr. R*^ about a ballpark estimate for 3 items that needed work. The ballpark estimate was in the high $300's to low 400's (2-2.5 hrs). They sent me a very experienced plumber, but he had only been with the company for 2 weeks.
He pulled into my driveway at exactly 9:00 am (I was told I would get him at 8:01, but this is trivial to my story). He sat in the truck for 10 minutes. I see him start to head to my front door, so I head there, then I see him start to head to my basement door, so I head downstairs, then he went back to front door. Bottom line, he walked in my front door at 9:15.
I would eventually be charged for these 15 minutes at $2 per minute. He started work at 9:30am. It took him until 11:50 am to get 2 small jobs done (what should have taken less than 2 hours). He started the large job (sewer clean-out at $2.50 per minute) and it took him exactly 1 hour to set up, remove toilet, snake line, return toilet, and put stuff away (good work here).
He went to his truck at 12:50, and came back in to present me with the bill at 1pm. I was charged 30 extra minutes for the sewer clean-out, and I was charged for time for several phone calls he received from his boss. The only thing that did not go as planned was a faulty solder job that I noticed was still leaking after he was finished. I was charged for the plumber to get all of his stuff back out and fix his faulty solder joint.
I was told this was my responsibility to pay for. A job that was supposed to be between $390 to low $400's ended up being $650.00! I called Mr. R*^ and he immediately brought the sewer clean-out down to the $150 that it should have been, but that was all he would do. Final bill: $580.

The people of this company seem to be very nice and seem to care, BUT.Took over a month to get a water hydrant installed. Work was left very sloppy and a shoddy job was done. Only the bare minimum was done to get the job done. They propped up the hydrant with a stick. Very unhappy. I can not recommend this company as far as the quality of the work is concerned.

I have used this company 3 times now and have nothing but good things to say. I had them install a shower a few years ago. They had the best price, did the work on time and did a great job. I called them yesterday with a stopped up kitchen sink and they were here this morning and done in an hour. Very professional.

They were recommended by an acquaintance as "the best". So when my sump pump exhausted itself from many consecutive days of rain/flood, I call them at 8am. The plumber arrived at 9am, fixed and replaced the sump pump by 9:30am, and out the door by 9:40am. They knew I was in a bind as the basement was flooded. Yet they charged me their standard rate, which was more than reasonable. I've previously used LenThePlumber and BG&E Home, but was never quite satisfied with their service. John E Ruth Co picked up a new customer in me!

I have hired them three times in the past few years to do some minor plumbing work. First was replacing the main 1950's shutoff valve. That one was quick and painless. Second was replacing a tub/shower faucet. I was a little disappointed in their finishing work--they had to enlarge the hole for the shower head pipe (hole needs patching) and wouldn't use the faucet I bought (solid lever handles, ceramic disc valve seats, etc), instead using a cheap faucet with plastic handles and rubber washers.
Their excuses were reasonable, and I didn't want to pay more than their $475 package deal. The last job was replacing two other shutoff valves in the basement, capping off the basement bathroom supply lines (in prep for demolition and remodel), replacing the inside shutoff valves for the outdoor faucets and replacing one of the outdoor faucets. They finished all of these quickly and without much trouble, although I think they overheated one of the basement shutoff valves since it doesn't seem to close solidly like the other ones. (He was having trouble with water still in the pipe.) Overall, they were very professional and in most cases, arrived when they said they would. (Last job was delayed twice.) As with any other job, unforeseeable problems do come up all the time, but that is why we hire professionals who have experience in dealing with these issues. (One time I started with replacing an original faucet and ended up replacing the whole sink. I have since replaced two more faucets, but it took three times as long as what a pro would have.)
