David and Martha Boyd started Federal Piping (FPI) in 1991 with minimal funds. David, with 10 years of trade experience working out of Local Union 131 NH, and the support and hard work of his wife Martha, a registered nurse from Massachussetts, they slowly built FPI to be a highly respected full-service plumbing and heating company in the Mount Washington Valley and Ossipee Valley.

Fantastic job by Steve P. and owner Dave.steve came to my house to restart my furnace which I was having trouble with (Chimney as well) and I told him my concerns (which I also addressed to multiple people in another agency and was ignored). he was told to start furnace and leave but he did listen to my concerns and looked at what I thought was safety issue/ agreed that it needed to be checked/monitored by fire dept first.
Fire dept kindly came out and if it were not for Steve and the fire department my 3 kids, myself and my pets would have not woken up the next morning. We would have been on the news for upcoming funerals. no exaggeration here. they all literally saved our lives. I highly recommend them for there top notch service, professionalism and support. Update :unfortunately the job hasn't been completed and my furnace is acting up since they were here.
It constantly shuts down and I have repeatedly called and was told they would charge me 500 To just come up. My siding is crooked, the power vent continually runs and the live 4 wires left sticking out of the uncovered panel keeps tripping my circuit breaker. I have pics but not site how to post. This is going on a year. UPDATE LATE 2020. SOMEONE ELSE CAME IN.IT WAS THEIR RELAY SWITCH THAT WAS BAD AND KEPT TRIPPING BREAKER.bad switch.unfortunately federal never contacted me or finished/ fixed job.

I called federal piping to help do some plumbing in my old house and to help get my hot water heater going. 8 years ago they gave me a bid for a new well pump. I got 3 bids and found another outfit from Cornish Maine was the best price! I guess they had this all in their notes and 8 YEARS LATER would not come when I called and really wanted them (since they are local, etc.) That is what I call a lousy business practice!
I really had nothing against their company it was just a matter of dollars as we are a family of 5 etc. I always try to hire nice local folks but when the cost comes in at nearly triple what another bid Was - I had no choice! Little did I know it would be held against me for life!

Called them this morning about my furnace not working. Was greeted on the phone by Cheryl who is a ver nice lady. Gave her my information and was transferred to Dave. Spoke to Dave for 2 minutes about the problem I was having and then spoke for an additional 10 minutes about work and being in the union. Felt like I could trust him right from the start.
He had an opening at 2 for a tech to come by my house. The tech (Steve) came out at exactly 2 and had the problem identified by 2:20. Ran out to get the part and came back installed and out the door by 4. This company truly went out of their way to keep me and my family warm as the storm sets in. Great company. Trustworthy, knowledgeable and professional 100%. Being in the military for 22 years These are traits I look for in dealing with businesses. Highly recommend them! Thank you Dave, Cheryl and Steve! My family's experience with Federal Piping was as bad as any contained within these reviews or those on Yelp, some of which aren't just bad but actually furious. I could recite the facts but what would be the point? They aren't going to stand behind their work and it would only serve to cause more bad feelings and high blood pressure. For those who have been taken advantage of, remember this: People like Dave aren't born, they're made.
Think of how traumatic a life experience he must have suffered for him to have lost the ability to treat people with respect, dignity and decency. I know the guys he sent to our house are good men and I don't hold it against them that they made a mistake. They admitted it and wanted to fix it. Think of what it must be like for them to have to choose between doing the right thing and keeping their job. Martha also has never had an unkind word for us.
She must be quite a woman to have endured her challenges over the years. Dave, it doesn't matter so much what a man is as what he wants to be, and I know somewhere deep down you want to be more than the way you mistreat so many people who look to you for help. I'm leaving you a 5 Star review in the hope that it will help renew your faith in humanity, especially your customers, your employees, and most of all yourself. God bless you. You are in our prayers.

Had a new shallow pump installed 9/3/2019 by Stephen and his apprentice and they showed up on time and did a great job! Oct 21,2019 called with questions about winterizing the pump and within 15 minutes or so Dave called be back and answered my questions. My first time using Federal Piping and so far impressed!

I called asking if loud bang noise coming from well tank/pump was dangerous. Told that my call would be returned that afternoon no call back. I called them back a week later said they are busy would call back same day. I get a call back describe problem he doesn't know what it is has to see what kind of pump/tank/well I have I ask if he could come see he tells me I will be charged its not for free.
I tell him of course nothing is free. He tells me some people want free service. I could care less about other people and hang up. Called other well digger in Chocrua got answer right away and appointment neext day.

I really don't like to leave bad reviews on places, especially when it can affect a business negatively. However, from both personal experience with federal piping and word of mouth I feel that people should be aware of my story before considering using them. We called them to inspect our well because of a pressure issue. An employee came to the house and within 15 minutes of being at our house said we needed a brand new pressure tank which would run us about $1000.
Not only did they charge us over $100 for just the short visit, but we had to put a $25 deposit down over the phone before they would even schedule an appointment. If something had come up and we had to cancel they would take our deposit. Anyway, we wanted a second opinion since it was so expensive. Another company came and realized it was an issue with the pump, not the tank, which only cost us $150.
Now everything runs fine. If we had gone with Fedeal Piping we would have done something unnecessary and expensive and it would not have fixed the problem. These people take advantage of people. Please beware. Anything to make a buck. Just do some research before trusting these people.

Correction to Dave, the owner of Federal Piping: It was NOT a freeze! It was a toilet paper clog! Your company did not offer to send another/one of your "technicians". The only offer for resolution was that you would send two at 300.00 an hour each for an hour. Anything past one hour, would be additional costs. Also, I did not know that the temperature outside is a significant factor to your service delivery!
The other four companies did not even comment on the temperature. If you are overburdened with service calls, it may be good business sense to say just that to your customer. They would surely be served better by someone who had the time to address their problem. One of the companies did just that. Furthermore, they suggested another septic company in the area to contact. Like you stated, you may be the "largest company in the region", but that does not give you the right to be downright rude to your customers.

Everything other folks has written here is true. I hired them when my well went out. They said they were a union shop and were sending 2 guys to deal with my well. Instead, my husband and I ended up doing the work with Dave Boyd, the owner. Despite us doing the work, Boyd charged us for 2 union guys. Now union rules say you can't put non-union folks on the job, so why did Boyd have my husband and I helping him pull out the well? And why did he charge us for 2 guys doing the work when there was only him and my husband and I? The guy is basically a crook.

Substandard work, The day they come to do some plumbing work, which should have taken one visit, the person worked for a few hours. Then the repairman told me to go as he had another job lined up, but I still had no water and would be back tomorrow to finish the work, I was obviously not happy, he then had the nerve to request payment for that days work even though it was not finished, really? Who does that. How are these guys still in business. Do yourself a favor, do nor use these guys. Call Dana Haley, been pretty happy with their work.

Crooks & Extremely Unprofessional Like the other review posted on Yelp, STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. We just fired them due to horrific overcharge to install a 25 foot of copper pipe that took 2 of their unionized plumbers ($88/hour) 15 hours to install. When I called their job foreman to discuss the bill he became irate that I had "the nerve to question their bill", "they don't negotiate their fees", "go ahead and don't pay me, I'll tell that to the judge", etc.
Lovely customer service. I got a quote from them about 10 years ago to put in a water filtration system and they literally came in 3x higher than the successful option we chose. Bottom line, this is an in your face, overpriced, unprofessional company that only deserves to serve people stupid enough to trust them.

Do not count on this company for anything! I called and asked to have my septic tank pumped and talked with one of the workers. He was amazing. He answered all of my questions and was so great that I even asked Federal to perform the $130 well inspection. Before they came to my house (when I was not home) I spoke to the owner, Dave, to let him know that there was a cement tank cover.
He said that would not be a problem. The septic tank pumping bill was fine, but the well inspection came to $340! No one had ever called me as the work was being done or after. I had to call them to see if the tank had been pumped. I then asked about the well inspection and why the bill was that high? Dave said I had a cement tank cover! I reminded him I told him that before they came on site.
Next he tells me, he had no idea how deep the well was. I told him he never asked me- I could have told him how deep it was. He told me he did me a favor by doing the work. He then told me he knows for a fact that his guys called. I explained that I never received a call nor does my phone snow a missed call. He said that happens to him all the time too (?) but they called and did the work without my knowledge.
He then said, I don't want to debate this, what do you want me to do? I said I would pay the agreed $130. Dave accepted that but not before saying - is that all you got? That makes you feel good? I wanted to work with Federal because of the great septic guy I talked to. I even would've have paid the $210 if we could have applied it to the cost of the well work that needs to be done, but we never got that far because this company makes maverick decisions about spending your money without your approlval or consent. Then when you point this out, they literally make fun of you for not being able to afford the bill you didn't ask for.

Goodness! STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE! We asked them for an estimate for a new furnace. This was a very large purchase, and we also got several other estimates. These guys came one day as another heating contractor was leaving. They became incensed that we had gotten other estimates, yelling and SWEARING at us, and telling the departing contractor "YOU can have this f******ing job!" They were rude and unprofessional beyond belief and acted as if we ought to be kissing their feet when WE were the ones spending big bucks for a new furnace, and should have been happy to get another job in a bad economy! We have since heard nothing but more bad things about Federal Piping from other local residents, and would never, ever consider hiring or recommending them to anyone!
