Rich Mathews & Son Plumbing and Gas Heating

I would totally recommend Rich Mathews & son for any of your plumbing and heating needs Rich saved our vacation this year and after the COViD lock down we needed it. It was Sunday night on the first day of our vacation when my daughter called and said there was no hot water in the house. Having a burnham he furnace, not many plumbers work on them.

I google searched and found Rich Mathews. I sent an email and he immediately called back. We talked for a while about the situation. He knew what the problem probably was and told me he wasn't going to be able to help right away, I said I could wait, but he knew someone who could get there sooner. This was about 8 pm on a Sunday night. He gave me the number of a guy he just spoke to that could help.

Within 10 min. Andy DelloRusso called me. Rich had told him of my situation and was able to come out the next day to make the furnace repair. I never expected such a kind gesture to give a job away so a potential customer would be able to get immediate service. Thank you Rich!

We had to replace our gas hot air furnace recently and placed a call to Rich Mathews & Son to give us a quote to do the work. He had previously installed a water heater at our house and did a great job at a fair price so we didn't hesitate to call him again. He just completed the installation of our new gas heating system and everything went smooth from start to finish.

He explained to us exactly what needed to be done and he made sure that the project is completed as promised at a price that was again unbeatable. I would highly recommend that you contact them for any similar work you need done and I will be sure to hire them again if the need arises! It was a pleasure working with him!

I don't hesitate to call Rich if I need plumbing work done. Rich put in a new boiler for us and has done some other work we needed. He does great work and is a true professioal with a great attitude. We have an old house with a few quirks, so we appreciated Rich making the time to follow up with us to make sure our boiler was working as expected.

I contacted Rich in early November to replace a malfunctioning boiler/hot water combination unit. Rich was prompt to return calls, and provided an extremely reasonable estimate within a few days of our first contact. He then completed the installation, and although the install was harder than he initially expected, he stuck to his original estimate.

He installed a Burnham cast iron boiler, with an HTP 60 Gallon Superstor and we have been very happy with the results so far, and very impressed with Rich's installation and continued service.

Rich did an exceptional job at our house. We are new homeowners and we were faced with a water heater not up to code. Not only did he go out of his way to ensure that the correct solution was done, but he took the time to explain all the options, listened to our needs and gave us the best pricing- out of three quotes! The job was completed the following day immaculately. He followed up the following day to ensure our satisfaction. An extremely professional and honest person.

I'm not sure why Rich doesn't have more reviews posted on Yelp but don't let that detour you. Rich recently installed a boiler in my condo. He is the most proactive contactor I have ever worked with. Also personable, responds to questions quickly, has fair prices. I highly recommend working with him.

Contacted other HVAC people, but wasn't that satisfied with them. Had to wait for Rich, but he was worth the wait. He replace the gas furnace, hot water heater and the new a/c unit for my central air for my home and my mother's home in Revere. He did a good detail overview of our home and updated what was needed. He was most knowledgeable.

He even loan us portable a/c's during the heat waves while our a/c's were being replaced. He also cleaned up after every day at the 2 locations. Had all the old equipment removed from the premises.

I can't say enough good things about Rich Mathews & Son. Our hot water heater failed and was pumping rust water through the lines in our house. We have an infant so needed clean hot water for baths and cleaning his bottles ASAP. When I called Rich he was completely accommodating and sympathetic to our bind. He offered to drop what he was working on and come service our system immediately without any surcharge or price gouging for expedited service.

I called him around 8:30 am. He got the part and was done with entire job by 11:00 am so we could be on the road before traffic hit. He was completely professional and did a marvelous job at a very reasonable price, which he quoted up front. Highly recommend!

After calling 10 plumbers and being very frustrated, I got lucky and Rich picked up the phone to help! He came over in a few hours and figured out a way to get my tenants hot water after they were without it for several days. Talk about stress relief! I found Rich to be a personable and very knowledgeable master plumber with great ethics. He showed up when he said he would and wasn't interested in a quick fix or making a quick buck but making sure he fixed the immediate problem and giving me time to decide on my next steps. My boilers are old, poorly installed and a hot mess so Rich is getting me a quote on two new boilers with two hot water heaters. So glad I called him!

Rich Mathews helped us convert our house from oil to gas heat, and we had a wonderful experience with him. He got to our job ahead of schedule, was incredibly easy to work with, fixed some other various issues he found while he was here, and gets bonus points for bringing treats for our dog (who loves Rich now). The next time we have a plumbing need he'll be our first call, and we can't recommend him enough.

I wasn't able to hire Rich, but he gets five stars for immediately answering my call and providing thorough and honest recommendations when it turned out that he doesn't offer the particular kind of installation I was looking for. Based on the friendly and responsive customer service alone, I will definitely try to hire him for future projects. Thank you Rich!

Can't say enough about Rich. I woke up around 5am to find our furnace fan running but not igniting. Called 10 places trying to get someone out that day and was turned away until we called Rich who mentioned he lived nearby and was happy to come by that morning. After 2 hours of working on the furnace he had everything up and running, provided us with all the information on what he did and what to keep an eye on, and best of all he didn't even charge us! Just a genuinely nice guy who really helped us out in a pinch.

My water heater decided to stop working recently on a Saturday and it is not easy to take a cold shower when the temperatures start falling. Rich had installed our last water heater many years back and did a great job then so we called him back again. He stopped by my house the next day and came back on the Monday following and installed a new water heater and also took the old one away.

The work area was cleaned up after the installation and we would not hesitate to call him back for any future plumbing problems. The price was very fair and he does excellent work! Daniel P.

Rich is fantastic. I purchased a multi-family with a pair of ~30 year old Williamson Furnaces, and had multiple people evaluate the furnace / water heater situation. Rich was the most knowledgeable, honest, and up-front person I met. He holds himself and his work to a very high standard, and will take care of you as a client. He performs the work himself, and explains why he is doing things a certain way.

He was also the only person who offered an explanation of why the units had different ductwork styles and fuel sources. Rich coordinated an oil tank removal company, removal of the old units, and delivery of the new. He has a wealth of knowledge that one can only develop with experience. The installs are very clean, and he exceeded my expectations with the direct venting exhaust pipes. I have recommended Rich to friends and family, and will continue to do so.

Rich saved the day when our water heater decided to turn into an indoor fountain. He answered my call promptly, even though he was on another job, and came out on a Saturday morning, with a replacement. Not only did he do a top-notch install, he even cleaned up the previous frankensteined copper piping coming to the tank, and filed a permit with the town for us. Rich's work is professional and neat, and he was charming to chat with as he was working. Someday, we may have him straighten out the odd spaghetti of radiator hoses that were installed by whoever the previous owners hired. But for now, our basement is dry and we have plenty of hot water. I recently moved into a condo with no functioning HVAC and broken windows during the middle of a heatwave. Rich came out within a day of calling. Walked me through all that was needed. Informed me of the Mass Save program. Once I got a full handle on the mass save rebate and loan program, Rich was able to get all equipment and AC installer lined up within 2 days of me requesting because he knew I was in a desperate situation without AC in a hot condo.

The install was more complicated than anticipated with very clogged ducts but Rich didn't adjust original quote. All work was done really well and he walked me through all that was done so I understood what was needed for maintenance. I got very lucky finding Rich Mathews & Son on yelp in my situation.

Rich Mathews & Son installed both our heating system and our water heater in 2011. The service was great, the work was done efficiently, the cost was fair, and Rich provided clear instructions for the very simple maintenance that the systems require. We have had no trouble with either system since installation and Rich has consistently been responsive to our occasional inquiries over the years.

After being told my hot water heater was in "imminent failure" I reached out to Rich, and he was able to help me within a day. I shared photos of my heater and Rich provided a quote over the phone. Upon installation, it became clear it would not be a cut and dry replacement - Rich meticulously checked pipes, exit points, etc. to ensure that my building and I were safe, and fixed unexpected issues that came up. All while sticking with his original quote. Rich was amazing - super friendly, professional and obviously cares about his work and clients.

Rich Mathews just finished installing a new gas heat and hot water system in my sister-in-law's home in Revere. Rich's attention to detail, constant communication every step of the way and his personal willingness to go above and beyond every step of the way was superb! I have hired a lot of different contractors for as lot of different jobs in the many years that I have been working on my home, as well as my family's homes.

Rich Mathews is really a good HVAC and plumbing expert, very genuine and honest with estimation, work and well organized. We got flooded and the hot water stopped functioning, called so many places, Rich was out on another job, promptly returned my calls, texts and emails. He also has a great relationship with the local town inspectors that is able to coordinate very efficiently on permits and inspection times.

He came over on Saturday and got the water heater replaced by Monday, again kept us in the loop with the process. Fixed few things which the builder had forgotten about it during initial construction. He has kept in contact after the job was done to make sure we were runing and if other items related to water damage were getting addressed, highly recommend him, glad that I found my plumber for all future work (Thanks Rich!)

I contracted Rich to replace a forced hot water boiler and electric hot water heater. He was an absolute pleasure to work with, focused on doing the right thing for a very reasonable price. I had tenants that had no heat and cold weather fast approaching. Rich was responsive, and took the time to make sure he was doing things right. While on the phone, Rich looked at the property on Google maps to understand how he was going to get the new boiler in, came over after hours to check over things and take measurements.

I got multiple bids from other contractors, and Rich was the only one to provide open, honest recommendations that had my best interests in mind. He pulled permits, showed proof of insurance and was accommodating around my work schedule. Not only that, but his relationships with others in the industry proved immensely helpful, including a referral for a very competent electrician, and being on first name basis with the inspector. I have no doubt my job was done right. His knowledge and attention to detail are top notch and I would highly recommend him.

I had flooding in my house due to an auto filling issue with my steam boiler. I called Rich, who I found here on Yelp, and he actually walked me through the whole process of correcting it. He could easily have charged me for an appointment to come out and look at it, but he instead walked me through a very simple process on how to remedy the problem and he didn't charge me a penny. Super nice, honest and knowledgeable guy. I will be giving him a call next time (knock on wood) I have any issues.

We've been working with Rich for a few years now and he is phenomenal. Just a few qualities we've found in him: 1. He does jobs right; he's diligent, careful, doesn't cut corners. 2. Tied to that, he cares. Even little stuff that isn't his job, like patching up a pipe he sees weakening or changing a switch, he does out of consideration.

He earnestly cares that the house is safe and functioning as best as he can make it. As part of that, he'll do jobs when they need to be done - not when he feels like it. We had a boiler dangerously venting a couple days before christmas and he came right away to take care of it, working through Christmas morning. He could've passed the buck but he didn't.

He cares about his customers. 3. He's neat and clean - he cleans up before jobs and after, and tries to leave spaces as clean or cleaner than he found them. He's considerate of your space and your stuff. If you've got a question about Rich, just message me - I'm happy to recommend him.

I found Rich on Angie's List and gave him a call because the reviews he had were so good. I left him a message and he called me right back and we made an appointment for later that evening. Rich was there on time and was extremely nice and informative on my extremely old boiler system, water heater and the oil to gas conversion that was going to take place.

Rich then sent me a quote in the mail which wasn't the cheapest but far from the most expensive that I had received and we decided that he was the best guy for the job. Prior to starting the job my husband and I noticed that one of our radiators started leaking and another was extremely loud. Therefore, I called Rich and he came out within a half hour and remedied the problem.

When he came to start the job he was always dependable and willing to answer any questions. Rich was so personable that my husband and I looked forward to getting home and having small talk with him. One Saturday he came to do some work and brought my husband and I some AMAZING scones that he gets from one of his other clients and let me just say, they were to DIE for.

How many people can say that they got breakfast from their plumber and above that enjoyed having them around?! As far as Rich's work is concerned, the boiler and water heater came out beautifully, when you have steam heat it truly is an art form and Rich is quite the artist. Our basement was literally cleaner when he left then it was when he came in. Needless to say, Rich will be the guy I call with all my plumbing issues.

I cannot say enough good things about Rich Matthews. He is genuinely a great person. I contacted him for an estimate to do an oil to gas conversion, expecting to schedule a visit within a couple of weeks. Rich was able to schedule a visit that same day (a Thursday), and I had a quote in my inbox on Saturday morning. Out of the three estimates I received, he was the lowest by thousands of dollars.

He did all of the scheduling for a new chimney liner and oil tank removal, and actually had the new gas boiler delivered and began assembling the boiler early to make sure I was without heat for a minimal amount of time. The work was done quickly, and extremely well. There were no issues throughout the whole process, or after the new heating system was up and running.

I got a couple of follow up calls from Rich checking in to make sure everything was working smoothly and they were. I've already recommended him to others. You can't beat this guy for price, service, and attentiveness.

My 15 month Weil-McLain stopped firing this evening. I did a search for plumbers who service Weil-McLain and I came across Rich Mathews & Son and gave them a call at 9 pm. Rich promptly answered the phone. I explained the situation to him. He asked me a few questions and then directed me look at the condensate trap, and sure enough, it was clogged.

He walked me through a quick clean out of the trap and the boiler is back to normal. Wow! What customer service at 9 pm at night to a non-previous customer for equipment he didn't install. Rich was very pleasant and very helpful. He could have very easily have said he'd come out & perform a service call and charged me for the same service I did myself. I would highly recommend and Rich now has new customer for future service and jobs. I think Rich should be your first call - I'm really happy he was mine.

Rich replaced our 30+ year old boiler and 10+ year old hot water tanks with a Burnham Alpine High Efficiency Gas Boiler and HTP Superstor Indirect Fired Water Heater, including new circulation pumps, expansion tank, relays, electrical, all associated components, permits, the whole nine yards. Rich also introduced us to the Mass Save Energy Audit program and the rebates and financing options available through that program. An exceedingly personable guy, he was easy to get ahold of via phone, text, or email and always responded promptly.

He completed the job on budget and a month ahead of schedule. Rich is a true craftsman and cares not only about the quality of his work and the systems that he installs, but also about his customers, treating their home with the care and consideration that he would his own. I enthusiastically recommend Rich.

Rich Mathews installed my boiler and hot water tank about 5 years ago. At the time my old system suddenly crashed we were in the middle of a intense cold wave. I found him by random and he called me back immediately. He arrived at my house with 6 space heaters BEFORE I even agreed to hire him. His price was totally fair and his work, even according to the Nahant plumbing inspector, was superior.

Both him and his son great guys, super friendly, respectful and total pros that stand by their work 100%. Fast forward 5 years my hot water wasn't working, I called him this week, he remembered me and showed up that day. Turned out it was a simple fix and he wouldn't take a penny. I tired to force him to at least take money for coming to my house, he said "no way, once my customer always my customer". If you need a plumbing job call these guys, you will NOT be disappointed.
